Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he loved taking part in different card games at a young age. He found himself becoming really competitive in the above-mentioned card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little bit and moved to New York City to play some big-time chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial two years were tough as he played countless hours and fail to win most times. He earned some additional money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He theorized he could better his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more rest and focus attention even more on poker.

The definite improvement in his skills happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often play against each other. He had access into several of the greatest minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his logical thinking skills. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of NL hold’em.

Howard also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a great student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He moved to Sin City in 1993 and played money games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
