Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and always strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
